U.S. EPA, State water officials, environmental groups and others are participating in a project with the United Egg Producers (UEP) to develop a comprehensive program to help participating facilities achieve “superior environmental performance” by implementing an environmental management system (EMS), http://www.epa.gov/projectxl/uep/. Project XL, which stands for "eXcellence and Leadership," is a national pilot program that allows state and local governments, businesses and federal facilities to develop with EPA innovative strategies to test better or more cost-effective ways of achieving environmental and public health protection.

This is part of a larger site on ISO14001/EMS hosted by the NC Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance.

The America's Clean Water Foundation (ACWF) On Farm Assessment and Environmental Review (OFAER) project, http://www.acwf.org/projects/projects.htm, provides livestock producers a confidential, comprehensive and objective assessment of water quality, odor and pest risk factors at their operations.

The Livestock and Poultry Environmental Stewardship curriculum, developed by a team of 30 Land Grant University, NRCS and ARS cooperators, will be released nationally on October 1, 2001.
