Dairy is a national 4-H project. It features curriculum that will guide you through the project. For a copy contact your County 4-H Office or order online at National 4-H Service Supply. For additional curriculum possibilities, explore the National Directory of 4-H Materials and do a key word search for Dairy.
Dairy 1
What you can do in this project: identify dairy breeds; study and identify parts of the dairy cow; learn how to select quality dairy calves; fit and show a calf; identify stages of calving and care; assemble tools needed for packing a show box.

Badger
Dairy Camp
This program for young people 12-18 features hands-on learning
projects – fitting, showmanship fundamentals, dairy judging
workshops, and dairy science-related workshops that focus on nutrition
and reproduction – to teach campers the fundamentals needed
to be successful in their dairy project work .
Dairy Project Training
Many counties hold local training for members and leaders in
their favorite project areas, including dairy. Watch your county
4-H Family newsletter or contact your county Extension office for
details.
Jim Crowley Memorial Award Interviews -
High schoolers in grades 10 through 12 and enrolled in the 4-H dairy project are invited to apply for the James W. Crowley 4-H Dairy Leadership Awards.
The deadline for applications or nominations for the 15 awards is July 15. Winners receive plaques and partial scholarships to attend the National 4-H Dairy Conference in September. The top two candidates will each receive $500 awards for continuing their dairy education. The James W. Crowley Dairy Management and Extension Fund sponsor this 4-H dairy award program. Finalists will be interviewed at the Wisconsin State Fair.
National 4-H Dairy
Conference
About 200 youth from 4-H dairy projects around the U.S. and
Canada congregate in Madison for National Dairy Conference held
annually in conjunction with World Dairy Expo. Participants learn
about production, processing, marketing and use of dairy products,
and develop a broader understanding of careers available in dairy
production, biotechnology, genetics, marketing and other selected
areas.
Wisconsin 4-H and Youth
Conference
If you’re in grades 8-10, check out the next Wisconsin
4-H and Youth Conference, scheduled each June at the UW-Madison
campus. The conference offers educational seminars in most areas
of 4-H. Contact your county Extension office for details.
Wisconsin 4-H Area Animal Science Days
Series of four day-long events held around the state where youth
in the beef, dairy, horse, sheep and swine projects increase their
decision making skills and knowledge of animals through judging
and grading experiences. Events include evaluation of dairy cattle,
horses and meat animals; dairy showmanship contests; hippology (the
study of horses); and oral reasons workshops. In addition, each
site offers a variety of workshops for small animal projects, which
may include rabbits, poultry, dogs, cats or llamas.
Wisconsin 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl
Dairy Bowl is a quiz competition where all the questions are
about dairy topics. Teams compete in a double elimination format
by giving oral answers to questions posed by a moderator. This website
provides contest rules and registration forms.
State 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
Held in late July each year. Teams qualify through Area Animal Science Days. Top Senior Teams will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Dairy Judging Competitions at Louisville, World Dairy Expo and Harrisburg, PA.
Wisconsin State Fair
Various dairy-related events held at State Fair Park, West Allis,
including the Wisconsin State Fair held each August.

County Fair
The county fair . . . what a great time it is! Every summer, families flock to county fairs to see the latest 4-H project exhibits. Exhibiting is a fun and educational way for youth to showcase their project work to judges and to the public.
Judging materials are supported by Bill Shaw in memory of his wife, Shirley.
