Dogs is a national 4-H project. It features curriculum that will guide you through the project. For a copy contact your County 4-H Office or order online at National 4-H Service Supply. For additional curriculum possibilities, explore the National Directory of 4-H Materials and do a key word search for Dog.

What you can do in this project: learn basic skills for dog care and training; discover different dog breeds; study and identify dog body parts; learn how to keep a dog healthy and groomed

Dog Project Training
Many counties hold local training for members and leaders in
their favorite project areas, including dogs. Watch your county
4-H Family newsletter or contact your county Extension office for
details.
Area, County and District Dog Events - Check and see what is happening in your area.
Wisconsin 4-H Area Animal Science Days
Series of four day-long events held around the state where youth
in the beef, dairy, horse, sheep and swine projects increase their
decision making skills and knowledge of animals through judging
and grading experiences. Events include evaluation of dairy cattle,
horses and meat animals; dairy showmanship contests; hippology (the
study of horses); and oral reasons workshops. In addition, each
site offers a variety of workshops for small animal projects, which
may include rabbits, poultry, dogs, cats or llamas.

Statewide training workshop for youth and adult project leaders.
Wisconsin 4-H and Youth
Conference
If you’re in grades 8-10, check out the next Wisconsin
4-H and Youth Conference, scheduled each June at the UW-Madison
campus. The conference offers educational seminars in most areas
of 4-H. Contact your county Extension office for details.
Wisconsin State 4-H Dog Show - Obedience and Showmanship
The show includes competitions in obedience and showmanship
for the dogs and a variety of other activities from public speaking
and demonstrations, arts shows, and a Dog Quiz Bowl for their people.
The show is open to youth enrolled in the 4-H Dog Project. Exhibitors
and dogs must meet county requirements for participation.
Competition is usually held friday night of the State 4-H Dog Show. See State Dog Show guidelines for details and entry. Check State 4-H Dog Show website for updates and details.

County Fair
The county fair . . . what a great time it is! Every summer, families flock to county fairs to see the latest 4-H project exhibits. Exhibiting is a fun and educational way for youth to showcase their project work to judges and to the public.
