Older Member Interviews

We’re pleased to invite members is grades 6 and over to participate in 4-H interviews , an opportunity available only to older members of the Barron County 4-H program.  This experience is your pathway to greater involvement in 4-H beyond Barron County. .

To be considered for trips and awards you must:

  • Complete the Member Evaluation (ME) Form – New! This form is now only 2 pages!
  • Complete the Trip Preference Form
  •  

  • Submit three letters of recommendation:  one from your 4-H Club Leader and two from non-relatives.
  • Participate in a 15-minute interview

Completed ME Form, Trip Preference Form, and three letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Extension Office no later than 9 a.m. on Friday, October 30.  Late forms will not be accepted

Interviews are scheduled for:

Wednesday, November 4 from 4-8 p.m., East Conference Room, Government Center

Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, Room 2151/2152, Government Center 

Contact the Extension Office at 57-6250, ext. 6 by 9 a.m. on Friday, October 30 to schedule a 15-minute interview.  A panel of judges from the community will be conducting the interviews.  Selection decisions will be made by the 4-H Trips Committee.

Where Interviews Will Take You...

*The Barron County 4-H Association Council provides up to $200 per member per year towards educational 4-H events above the county level. Council also funds national trips at 50% of the cost.  The national trips include CWF, Space Camp, National Congress and National Conference. If a member receives funding for one of the national trips, they will also be eligible for the $200 funding for additional events. 

Space Camp
Held in Huntsville, Alabama.  April 15-19, 2010.  Explore the fascinating world of aerospace, astronomy and technology! 4-H Missions in Space program is a fun-filled weekend at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center where participants will complete a simulated Space Shuttle mission, experience training simulators, tour the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and learn about becoming an astronaut.  Delegates participate in hands-on mock space missions and other activities in this NASA program while exchanging ideas with youth from across Wisconsin. Qualifications: be in grades 6-8 and maximum age of 15 at time of trip.  Cost of Space Camp is approximately $490*. Learn more about Space Camp.

Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference
Held at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.  June 21–24, 2010. Approximately 650 youth attend this educational event each summer. Participants take part in educational seminars and assemblies and meet people from across Wisconsin. They are encouraged to take what they learn and share it with others in their home communities. Qualifications: be in grades 7-10 at time of selection. Conference registration fee is approximately $200-$225. Learn more about 4-H & Youth Conference.

Citizenship Washington Focus
Held one week in June or July 2010 in Washington, DC. (Tentative dates: June 19-27, June 26-July 4, July 10-18.) CWF is a 4-H leadership program for high school youth from across the country. Participants stay at the National 4-H Conference Center, near Washington, D.C., participating in a week-long program focused toward enriching young people’s lives by providing activities for them which broadens their appreciation and respect for themselves and others in their world. The week consists of participatory workshops, speakers, committee work, field trips and social events. Qualifications: be in grades 10–12 and minimum age 15 at time of trip. Total cost for the trip is approximately $1,100*. Delegates are required to attend an audioconference orientation session. Learn more about CWF.

National 4-H Congress
Held in Atlanta, GA. November 26-30, 2010. Approximately 1,300 members of 4-H Youth Development Programs from around the country and Puerto Rico gather to learn new skills in leadership, community service and multi-cultural integration. In addition to attending assemblies and workshops, they participate in discussion groups on issues facing our country today and moderate a town hall meeting at which they share the results of those discussions.  Also, delegates participate in hands-on projects during a day of community service as they learn how to work with others to help individuals and organizations in a community improve themselves. Qualifications: be in grades 10–12 and maximum age of 18 as of January 1 in year of travel. Trip cost is approximately $1,000*. Learn more about National 4-H Congress.

National 4-H Conference
Held in Washington, DC. March 20-25, 2010. Six (6) youth from Wisconsin 4-H are selected to attend this working conference held at the National 4 H Center.  Barron County can nominate one youth for consideration by the State 4-H selection committee. The National 4-H Conference is the flagship youth development opportunity of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The conference is designed to provide a meaningful personal and educationalexperience for conference delegates: Strengthening leadership skills;  Create an experience for delegates to become familiar with government; Reinforce the rich history of 4-H and its tie to Cooperative Extension and the land-grant system; Engage delegates with leaders from USDA; Stimulate thought around key matters;  Provide an opportunity for delegates to engage as citizens by meeting with their congressional representatives to discuss issues affecting their communities. Qualifications: be in grades 10–12 and maximum age of 18 as of January 1 in year of travel. Trip cost is approximately $1,100*. The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation sponsors a portion of the cost. Key Award
The Key Award is the most prestigious award that a 4-H member can receive.  The award is based on member's total 4-H record, projects, leadership, and activity involvement. Members who will be graduating from 4-H in 2010, and who are grades 12 or 13 may be selected; winners are announced at the 4-H Graduation program.  This award is sponsored by Farm Bureau and Rural Insurance Company.
