What do I need to do?
Avoid the use of acronyms and abbreviations in link text. Do not use abbreviations or acronyms in alt text for images.
How do I do this?
Any acronym should be preceded by the full title on first use to avoid confusion.
Why is this important?
Screen readers will try to pronounce acronyms and abbreviations, often resulting in an unintelligible outcome. Additionally, many users may not be familiar with a specific company's abbreviations or acronyms and will benefit from knowing the full name.
