What do I need to do?
Provide text and/or audio descriptions of any visual content. Provide synchronized text captioning with all multimedia presentations. Provide a link to any necessary plug-ins.
How do I do this?
For audio - Create a text transcript of the audio file and upload it to the Web site. Provide a link to the transcript file next to the audio file link.
For video - Caption the video using HiSoftware. HiSoftware is a free download for UW faculty and staff.
Why is this important?
The visual aspect of multimedia presentations cannot be accessed by screen readers. Users who are deaf or hard of hearing also cannot access audio content directly. Additionally, some users may not have the software or connection speed necessary to access multimedia files.
