Professional Education Meetings & Conferences
Training and educating other health care providers about appropriate pain management practices is a primary area of focus for many SPIs. Often SPIs coordinate single or multi-day professional education conferences and meetings, and these meetings not only provide health professionals with needed information on pain management, but also build the membership base of the SPI. Summits, Forums, Task Forces, & Workgroups
Improving state pain policy is another major area of focus for State Pain Initiative efforts. SPIs advocate for balanced pain policies that will help reduce the risks of abuse and diversion without blocking people's access to needed treatments and care. Several SPIs have organized meetings - variously called summits, forums, task forces, or workgroups - to bring together key stakeholders to address the pain policy and regulatory issues in their states.
