Where: U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama
When: April 15-19, 2010
Boldly go where other 4-H’ers fear to tread… Explore the fascinating world of aerospace, astronomy and technology!
4-H Missions in Space program is a fun-filled weekend at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center where
participants will complete a simulated Space Shuttle mission, experience
training simulators, tour the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and learn
about becoming an astronaut.
A mandatory teleconference orientation will be scheduled for March 9, 2010, from 7-8:20 p.m.
An optional workshop has been scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2010 between 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at UW Space Place (Madison, WI) so delegates can meet others from their mission and experience hands-on space exploration activities prior to travel.
Departure for Huntsville will be during the morning on Thursday and arrival back in Wisconsin will be early Monday.
A coach will depart from Eau Claire and pick-up participants at Wausau, Madison and Milwaukee before traveling overnight to Huntsville. Return sites will be the same.
Qualifications:
- 4-H members in grades 6-8 may apply. Maximum age of 15 at time of trip.
- Must be currently enrolled and carry county approval through time of trip.
- Enrollment in 4-H Aerospace project is not required.
A ratio of 1 chaperone per 10 youth
will be selected for the trip. (Interested adults should ask their county
4-H office staff for a 2010 State & National Group Leader Application,
due March 1. All adult leaders must be certified Wisconsin 4-H leaders
over 21 years of age.)
Cost:
Tentative costs including coach travel are approximately
$490. Final costs will be confirmed and announced in February. Payment
is due March 15 payable to UW - Extension.
Applications:
- The delegate nomination process varies by county. Check with your Coujty 4-H Youth Development Agent for details.
- The completed application must be postmarked to your county Extension
4-H Youth Development Office prior to December 1, 2009.
- Counties may register applicants on-line between January 4-15, 2010.
- Selectees will be notified by the State 4-H Office late January 2010. Selections limited to 92 delegates.

- Mandatory training teleconferences for Camp Counselors are: Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 (8-9pm), and a second teleconference in March. Additionally, Camp Counselors are required to attend the delegate orientation teleconference on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. (7-8:20 p.m.)
