Research Based Frameworks and Educational Tools

Strengthening Positive Youth Development Environments: Research-Based Frameworks for Extension Educators provides practical research, planning, assessment and practice tools on positive youth development for Extension educators and others working in community settings. The Framework includes presentations, resource guides, self-assessment tools, re-printable fact sheets for newsletters and training, and other tools.


Essential Elements of Positive Youth Development

  • Strengthening Positive Youth Development Environments: Research-Based Frameworks for Extension Educators - Refer to sections II. C. and III. B. for information and teaching resources on the Essential Elements of Positive Youth Development.
  • Word Icon Essential Element Book Mark (2 pages, 300 KB, 2 per page, front and back of the handout) - Front and back of a handout featuring the four essential elements, with brief descriptions of the critical components of each element. The handout is appropriate for a range of audiences, including 4-H volunteers. Consider laminating the handout to encourage participants to keep it as a reference piece.
  • Dr. Cathann Kress, Director, Youth Development National 4-H Headquarters, CSREES, USDA, presented a Youth Emphasis Wisline Web on February 6, 2006 entitled, Windows Media Icon "What Does America Need from 4-H?", a streaming audio and the power point which focuses on the essential elements of positive youth development and the role of 4-H in youth development are available.
