Creating 4-H Learning Experiences Desire2Learn (D2L) Online Course
DATES:
This course is offered twice a year, each spring from March 15 to May 15 and each fall from September 15 to November 15. Course participants are encouraged to refine their activities with local groups even when the online course is not in session. Once activities have passed the jury, they are posted on the Wisconsin 4-H web site.
Important dates this session include:
- March 10 - May 15, 2008, is when the course is active by participants and monitored by coaches
- Wisline Web Kickoff Session is Monday, March 10, 2008, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Central Daylight Savings Time. You will need to be at your phone and computer at the same time.
- Wisline Midpoint Teleconference is Monday, April 7, 2008, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Central Daylight Savings Time. You will need a quiet place to take this phone conference.
GOALS:
Participants will:
- Become familiar with a 4-H activity plan template and create a draft of one “stand alone” activity or create an activity series with four or more activities.
- Become familiar with the 4-H Curriculum Criteria used to review and jury activities before they are posted on the Wisconsin 4-H web site and shared nationally.
- Be part of a learning community that provides a venue for scholarly critique and support.
EXPECTATIONS:
Course participants will:
- Write an activity and refine it through feedback by coaches and other participants, as well as help review activity drafts created by others.
- Participate in the 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2008, course kickoff via Wisline Web, as well as the 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, midpoint Wisline phone conference.
- Complete a pre and post-course survey.
INCENTIVES:
- Opportunity for creative work as you learn how to write a high quality activity plan that will make a valuable addition to your résumé, portfolio, and academic staff title review file or faculty tenure file.
- Activities that pass the jury are posted on the Wisconsin 4-H web site.
- Wisconsin participants then receive a $50 grant from the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation to create a local teaching kit and $200 for a series of four or more activities.
