WHAT WE DO FUND

The grant provided by the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation will be used primarily to support statewide 4-H programs and for Wisconsin 4-H youth participating in national 4-H events. All programs must occur from July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013. Highest priority will be given to program funding applications that include one or more of the following components:

  • Leadership training opportunities for 4-H youth and adult volunteers.
  • Youth involved in planning and implementing the program.
  • Workforce preparation and career development opportunities for 4-H youth.
  • 4-H programs that are designed to reach new audiences.
  • Pilot 4-H programs requiring start-up funds.  (Program summaries for these pilots will be available for use by all counties.)

WHAT WE DON’T FUND

  • Cash awards.
  • The purchase of local use capital equipment or hardware.
  • Paying volunteer leaders or 4-H staff for services.
  • Building projects or facility improvements (with the exception of the Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center).
  • County-specific programs unless they are new, innovative projects needing start-up funds that can be replicated in other counties.

HOW TO APPLY

  • All applications must include the Cover Page, the one-page Application Form and the Demographics and Funding Summary Form.
  • All program funding applications must be signed by a county and/or state 4-H Youth Development staff person and submitted electronically.
  • State 4-H teams attending a national contest will be awarded a set amount per team to help cover the cost of their travel.  (National contests held in Wisconsin will be awarded a lesser amount.)  A program funding application is required.
  • As a change from previous years’ funding requests, please group similar events/programs into one application form. Use bullets to briefly describe each event.
    • For example, Art Beat, ArtLab and ArtsCamp would be grouped under the program name of “Statewide Arts Events” and use one application form.
    • In the animal science area, events like: quiz bowl, skillathon, livestock judging event, meat evaluation contest would be grouped under the program name “Statewide Animal Science Events/Contests” and leadership programs, i.e., leadership symposium, ethics and sportsmanship, and horse leader conference can also be grouped.
    • The groupings of programs will be determined by the state specialist representing that program area.

All Funding requests will be evaluated using the following criteria (if applicable to the program):

  • Overall quality and completeness of application
  • Relationship to a larger program mission
  • Ability to be replicated by multiple counties or groups (for pilot programs)
  • Evaluation strategy
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities for youth and adults

Program funding recipients are asked to acknowledge the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and donor partners in program materials and to send letters of thanks to donor partners.

Established in 1954 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation is dedicated to providing essential funding for 4-H programs, working in cooperation with state and county 4-H Youth Development staff.  Program funding applications will be reviewed by the Grant Review Committee of the 4-H Youth Development Program area
