Capture the SpiritCapture the Spirit

You won't believe what's happening at the 2007 North Central Region Volunteer Forum in Milwaukee. It's almost impossible to "capture" it in a few words! Click here for a print-friendly conference schedule. During the Forum you'll find:

  • Discover Milwaukee Tour -- Arrive early Thursday for the pre-conference and take the Discover Milwaukee Tour, an afternoon to enjoy some of Milwaukee’s most famous landmarks. Start with a behind the scenes tour at Milwaukee’s most famous brewery, Miller Brewing. This hour-long tour includes outdoor walking, so please dress appropriately. Non-alcoholic beverages will be served at the end. Then take a bus ride through some “Streets of Old Milwaukee” and end the afternoon at the world famous Milwaukee Art Museum to experience the closing of the Brise Soleil, a one of a kind architectural wonder. Admission to the Art Museum is not included. You can choose to venture inside to explore, or perhaps take a stroll along Milwaukee’s incredible lakefront.
  • Hospitality, Recreation, and Networking – Kick off your 2007 Forum experience by exchanging items at the Thursday night Early Sash with pinsBird Welcome reception from 7 to 9 p.m. It’s a fun way to greet your new and long-time friends. Bring pins or other items to exchange with 400 to 500 participants from 12 states and three Canadian provinces. Items that represent your state, province, county, or club will create lasting memories. Take a break with your friends in the Hospitality area which will be open throughout the 2007 Forum. Each evening there will be time for group recreation activities, led by Wisconsin most engaging 4-H staff and volunteers. And throughout the conference, but especially each evening, there will be time for formal and informal networking with your 4-H colleagues and friends.
  • Guest Speakers – Byron Garrett, Nancy Zieman, and Tim Talen will be the featured speakers at the Forum. Garrett is National 4-H Program Leader, Zieman is the creator of "Sewing with Nancy," and Talen is Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication Specialist.
  • Educational Sessions and Sessions on Wheels – You will have your choice of over 80 seminars and tours during the 2007 Forum.
  • World Café – Consider for a moment the importance of conversation. Virtually every action we take is directed by discussion. Between individuals and within our organizations, we generate meaning as a result of the quality of our conversations. In fact, we create our world and its future by connecting with each other, sharing knowledge and know-how, and building relationships – all through the process of collaborative conversation. The World Café is a way to generate such authentic conversation centered on questions that truly matter and create possibilities for action in groups of all sizes. People around the world are finding the World Café principles and process easy to use, exciting and inspiring. Now, the 2007 NCRVF brings the conversation to you! Our World Café aims to inspire you to engage in "conversations that matter" with your family and friends, and within your organizations and communities.
  • Fun EntertainmentThe 2007 Forum will rock with a variety of entertainment, from a performance by Wisconsin's 4-H Showcase Singers to a polka dance by Carol & the Keynotes.
  • Community Service Project – The Forum is pleased to announce that the Community Service Project for 2007 is Condella's Coats for Kids. Each year thousands of coats are donated and given to area children and families in need. Please help us keep the kids warm this winter and consider donating "gently worn" coats, snow pants, mittens, and hats this year.
  • 4-H Marketplace – New at the 2007 NCRVF is a high quality arts and crafts show called 4-H Marketplace. Wisconsin 4-H youth, adults, and alumni will showcase and sell Wisconsin arts and crafts that they have made.
  • Silent Auction – Bid high, bid often!!! Handmade items, gift baskets, and many other items will be "sold" to the highest bidder. Please plan to check out the Silent Auction area during the Forum. The final bell will ring sometime between 5:45 and 6:00 p.m., Saturday. The winners will be announced at Saturday night's banquet. If you are interested in donating a silent auction item, please bring it with you to the conference. If you have any questions, please contact Dean at dbloch@sdlax.k12.wi.us or Pam at pkescenovitz@germantown.k12.wi.us.
  • Commercial Vendors – The 2007 Forum will feature an area where you can browse commercial exhibits and find great information about fund raising opportunities, educational materials, and youth resources.
  • Wisconsin Products Showcase – Get a “taste” of Wisconsin’s food products and much more during Thursday evening’s Early Bird Welcome. Can you say “cheese”?
  • Great Wisconsin Food – From delicious breakfast buffets to a traditional Wisconsin tailgate party, you will not go away hungry!
  • Conference Apparel – Be a member of the Forum Team with official shirts featuring the “Capture the Spirit” logo. If you order 2007 NCRVF apparel when you register, your shirts will be waiting for you when you arrive.
  • Sunday Morning Conference Wrapup – What better way to end a great conference where you "catch" the 4-H spirit than to spend some important time Sunday morning gathering ideas on how to "release" that spirit into your 4-H community when you get home. You don't want to miss the end of conference, which will include a PowerPoint of 2007 Forum photos.

If you have any questions or would like to submit information, please contact: Kandi O’Neil, kandi.oneil@ces.uwex.edu, or Sue Pleskac, sue.pleskac@ces.uwex.edu.
