The opportunity to work with youth is a privileged~ 30~4~51~0~position and should be held only by those who are willing to demonstrate behaviors that fulfill this trust. All 4-H Youth~ 30~4~52~2~Development volunteers working with youth are required to complete the Wisconsin 4-H Youth Protection program.~ 30~4~54~0~This includes: a) a background check for arrest and conviction records, b) participation in a volunteer orientation~ 30~4~55~2~program and c) signing the Volunteer Behavior Expectations form. The primary purpose of this process is to ensure the~ 30~4~57~0~safety and well-being of all participants (i.e. youth, their parents and families, salaried and volunteer staff). 4-H~ 30~4~58~2~Youth Development volunteers are expected to abide by the following behavior standards established by UW-Extension/~ 30~4~60~0~4-H, and to conduct themselves as positive role models for youth. All 4-H Youth Development volunteers are ultimately~ 30~4~61~2~accountable to UW-Extension for their 4-H related activities. As a 4-H Youth Development volunteer I will:~ 30~4~64~0~>~ 30~6~64~0~Conduct myself with courteous manners and language, exhibiting good sportsmanship, serving as a positive role~ 30~6~65~2~model, treating others with respect, and demonstrating reasonable conflict resolution skills.~ 30~4~68~0~>~ 30~6~68~0~Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and UW-Extension and U.S.D.A. rules, policies and guidelines.~ 30~4~70~2~>~ 30~6~70~2~Accept supervision and support from Extension staff or designated management volunteers.~ 30~4~73~0~>~ 30~6~73~0~Make all reasonable efforts to ensure that programs are accessible to all individuals regardless of race, color, sex,~ 30~6~74~2~creed, disability, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy, marital or parental status.~ 30~4~77~0~>~ 30~6~77~0~Treat animals in a humane manner and teach program participants to provide appropriate animal care and~ 30~6~78~2~management.~ 30~4~81~0~>~ 30~6~81~0~Not consume alcohol or illegal substances while responsible for youth in 4-H activities, nor allow 4-H youth~ 30~6~82~2~participants under my supervision to do so.~ 30~4~85~0~>~ 30~6~85~0~When transporting youth, operate motor vehicles and other equipment in a safe and reliable manner and only with a~ 30~6~86~2~valid operator's license and legally required insurance. I will comply with all motor vehicle-related state~ 30~6~88~0~regulations and laws. All transported youth will be secured by a properly operating seat belt.~ 30~4~91~0~>~ 30~6~91~0~Conduct myself in a manner that is in the best interest of youth and UW-Extension/4-H Youth Development and will~ 30~6~92~2~not use the volunteer position for purposes of private or personal gain.~ 30~4~95~0~>~ 30~6~95~0~Recognize that verbal, sexual, physical abuse and/or neglect of youth is unacceptable.
