Upham Woods Gift Guide

Dear Friends, Guests, and Supports of Upham Woods;

It is with great anticipation and excitement that I present to you the first “Gift Guide” for Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. It is my hope that this gift guide not only provides you fun and enjoyment while you peruse its pages, but that it also creates an easy process for individuals, groups, and businesses to support the important and necessary youth development work that happens on the grounds of Upham Woods every day.

In 1941, the Upham sisters (Elizabeth & Caroline) created one of their lasting legacies by donating the land that is now Upham Woods to the University of Wisconsin. Through this generous donation, they were able to ensure a place and program that helps youth and adults learn and grow through the outdoor experiences that were so special to them throughout their childhood.

After the land was transferred to UW-Extension and the Wisconsin 4-H Youth Development Program, 4-H clubs throughout Wisconsin ensured their legacy by raising funds to build the structures and programming you see today at Upham Woods. From the dimes that the first Director, Ranger Mac, challenged individual 4-H members to bring with them to camp (which eventually allowed Upham Woods to purchase additional adjacent acreage) to the cabins which were funded by individual families and county 4-H organizations, generous contributions of time, talent, and funding became a cornerstone for making the original dream of the Upham sisters a reality.

Now, over 60 years later, Upham Woods is still dependent on this type of generosity to keep its programming and facilities available for today’s youth and adults. Just as those who came before, you can ensure your legacy through a donation to Upham Woods. Throughout these pages you’ll find a remarkable variety of current programmatic, building, and facility needs—both short and long term. You will also find information about the Friends of Upham Woods group and a chance to sign up for our quarterly online newsletter, “Woods Writings.”

If would like a representative from Upham Woods to talk to you or a group you are affiliated with personally about contributions to this unique Outdoor Learning Center, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your interest in helping maintain and grow the legacy of Upham Woods.

Sincerely,
Jessica Jens
