Iron County is one of the northern most counties in Wisconsin, bordering the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at one point and Lake Superior at another. The City of Hurley is the seat of government for Iron County and is the largest population center. There are a total of 6861 residents in the county.
Natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities are important assets for the local economy and play and important role in the way of life for Iron County residents. Inland lakes, woodlands, rivers and streams draw those interested in viewing waterfalls, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and ATV riding. Winter snowfall averages 180 inches to help support an active winter sports scene of downhill skiing, snowmobiling and cross county skiing.
