About AmeriCorps*VISTA Volunteers

The AmeriCorps*VISTA program is a federal volunteer program designed to reduce the Americorps VISTA Logoeffects of poverty throughout America. "VISTA" stands for "Volunteer In Service To America" and the VISTA program in this sense operates much like a domestic Peace Corps.

Volunteers live within the communities they serve for the year-long term of their service. Our VISTA Volunteers working with UWEX currently live and work in urban and rural communities across Wisconsin, designing and supporting activities to empower low-income communities, giving them opportunities to improve their standards of living.

Additionally, UWEX has cost shared VISTA's who are working in Milwaukee and Kenosha counties to reduce the effects of poverty through community partnerships.
