Iron
County is one of the northern most counties in
Wisconsin, bordering
the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at one point and Lake Superior at
another. The City of Hurley is the seat of government for Iron County
and is the largest population center. There are a total of 6861 residents
in the county.
Natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities are important
assets for the local economy and play and important role in the way
of life for Iron County residents. Inland lakes, woodlands, rivers
and streams draw those interested in viewing waterfalls, fishing,
canoeing, kayaking, and ATV riding. Winter snowfall averages 180
inches to help support an active winter sports scene of
downhill skiing, snowmobiling and cross county skiing.
