Rock County Youth in Governance Programs

  • Rock County 4-H Junior Council works jointly with the Senior Council on county policy and funding decisions. They have their own budget and offer educational events that create leadership opportunities, improve the program, and serve the community.
  • The Rock County 4-H Disaster Relief Committee provided opportunities for youth to contribute to people in need and to develop habits of citizenship and generosity. Youth members raised money for home-building following the Indian Ocean tsunami and traveled to Mississippi to assist in hurricane recovery. Reflection indicated that youth participants developed an understanding of others, strengthened their belief in their own potential to make a difference in the world, and learned to plan and complete projects.
  • Junior Council members expanded their partnership with a community effort to donate toys for holiday gifts that allowed the group to serve 140 more families in 2007 than in 2006.
