Wisconsin Hospital Economic Impact Tool
The tool can be used to calculate the impacts of Wisconsin's hospitals on their regional economy. To obtain a copy of the tool, please contact Matt Kures at matthew.kures@uwex.edu
Using the Software:
1. You will be asked to enter four values to calculate your hospital's economic impact:
- Total Revenue - Total operating revenue for your hospital. This figure is referred to as "Total Revenue" in the 2006 WHA Hospital Fiscal Survey.
- Total Jobs - Total jobs is the sum of the full-time and part-time employment at your hospital. Note that these are not FTE equivalents. For instance, If you have 100 full-time employees and 25 part-time employees, you would enter 125 total jobs.
- Total Labor Income - Total payroll expenses for your hospital, not including employee benefits. This figure is referred to as "Total Payroll Expense" in the 2006 WHA Hospital Fiscal Survey.
- Total Income - Total income is the sum of your labor income and net income. Net income is also called "Net Income" in the 2006 WHA Hospital Fiscal Survey.
Once you have entered your values, click the "Update Impacts" button. Note that you can only enter whole numbers into the input boxes. No underscores, periods, commas or non-numeric figures are allowed. If you have entered the values properly, the table will be populated with your hospital's various impacts. Note that these figures are based on 2006 multiplier values. Definitions and interpretations of the impacts are available in the full hospital economic impact report. To clear your entered values, click the "Clear Fields and Impacts" button.
You can export your impacts into a tab-delimited (.txt) file or a comma-delimited (.csv) file that can be opened in most spreadsheet programs by clicking on the File Menu and selected "Export Impacts." You can also copy values directly from the spreadsheet by selecting one or more spreadsheet cells and clicking Ctrl+C (Control and C at the same time). These copied values can be pasted into spreadsheets and other document types.
