The Century Oaks Farm is owned and operated by Marty and Melissa Sprecher with the help from their children Brady, Sidney, Talena and Annabeth.The family manages just shy of 500 acres. For the past ten years, Century Oaks has been finishing out a mix of Holstein and Jersey steers. Century Oaks Farm finishes out about 150 head annually. In addition to the cattle they have a cropping enterprise of mainly wheat, corn and soybeans. They also have 22 acres of produce primarily sweet corn, asparagus, and strawberries.
The program begins at 3:30 p.m. with a farm tour and a discussion by Melissa and Marty Sprecher. At 5 p.m., the Richland County Beef Producers will be grilling a steak dinner with salad, baked potato, sweet corn and dessert. Following dinner, there will be a breakout session where producers can choose to attend a presentation on "Calf Care and Weaning Strategies for Beef Producers" by Adam Hady, UW-Extension Richland County agriculture agent or "The Economics of Dairy Steers" by Bill Halfman, UW-Extension Monroe County agriculture agent.
The
cost, covering meal and materials is $12. Please pre-register by Monday,
July 13 to ensure an accurate meal count. To register, contact Adam
