FARM TECHNOLOGY DAYS
UW-Extension brings exhibits and information to Farm Technology Days

Brown County Farm Technology Days logo

Visitors to Farm Technology Days are invited to sample a variety of educational exhibits from the University of Wisconsin-Extension. You can get your drinking water tested, visit with Extension Master Gardeners, and discuss wildlife concerns.

You can schedule "appointments" with an entire clinic of "doctors" ready to diagnose and suggest treatments for everything from ailing plants to less-than-vibrant photographs.

You will also be able to learn about energy conservation and renewable energy technologies that let rural families and businesses save energy and the environment while improving their bottom line.

In the Progress Pavilion you can:

  • Get an expert to diagnose and prescribe treatments for ailing plants or sick soils, or to suggest the best way to manage insects and weeds.
  • Consult with a photography specialist about simple things you can do to take better pictures.
  • Find out if your well water contains dangerous contaminants.
  • Have Extension Master Gardeners answer your gardening questions and get samples of UW-Extension Horticulture publications.

The Applied Technology Center features cutting edge dairy technologies:

  • Examine six freestalls with real cows that utilize three different mats and bedding - sand bedded, pack mat and pasture mat - to improve cow comfort.
  • Learn more about radio frequency ID (RFID) technology. Demonstrations during Farm Technology Days will feature three dry cows from Country Aire Farms - identified with RFID ear tags. There will also be an explanation of herd management software, handheld data collection equipment and ID readers.
  • Take a close look at a new calf pen design and ventilation system that allows uniform air flow, but minimizes draft on calves.
  • See a commercial machine used to chip plastic containers in preparation for recycling. View products made from recycled plastic, including agricultural plastic, such as telephone poles, railroad ties, lumber and fence posts.
  • Find out how Global Positioning Systems (GPS) can be used to protect the bottom line of farmers' while protecting the environment at the same time.
  • Get a free LED night light to try at home. LED (light emitting diode)
lamps which can be up to 10 times more efficient than an incandescent
bulb have an average life of 50,000 hours -- 50 times longer than an
    incandescent bulb.
