AWARDS A University of Wisconsin-Extension specialist in entrepreneurship and community economic development has been tapped as the new leader of the Extension Center for Community and Economic Development. Effective July 1, Greg Wise succeeds co-directors Chuck Law and Gary Green as the Center's fifth director.
Wise has specialized in research and applied outreach related to entrepreneurship in community economic development. He joined the Center in 2004 after serving six years in the Office of the Chancellor, including 15 months as the interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Economic Development. For 11 years, Wise was community development educator in Manitowoc and Sauk counties. He joined UW-Extension as an instructor in 1989. The Center for Community and Economic Development, created in 1992 by agricultural economist Ron Shaffer, provides outreach and support for Wisconsin communities by working with county extension educators, officials and key stakeholders to build local economies. The Center collaborates with local leaders to help them shape the future of their communities in ways that both sustain the economy and enhance residents' quality of life. Wise plans to build on the strengths of the Center while looking for new opportunities to support community development efforts statewide and nationally. Wise said, "It is a privilege to work with such respected faculty and staff, both in the Center and across the state. I look forward to supporting the Center as we continue the excellent work that has allowed so many communities and organizations to enhance their effectiveness and reach their potential."
