Pulling the husks back reveil a few kernels at most per ear. An occasional plant (5% of total) have near normal developed ears. The majority of the area will not produce any yield. This is a corn field following several years of soybeans. I was told by the seed rep that Aim was used as a burndown with soybeans the year before followed by Roundup. Lumax was apparently applied to corn this spring at 2nd leaf stage. Planted May 5th, and a 98 day maturity variety with several trait stacks. Noticed the soil in this area of the field to be wetter than the rest of the field. I took a video with much greater detail of what the field looks like but will need to find a method to get on-line. The trees are over 10 years old and their fruit has shown these symptoms for the past several years. The owner said he sprayed the trees with insecticide every 10 days after 3/4 petal drop. Is this Cork spot, water core or something else? Fungi/Mushroom ID http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=14005 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=14005 Thu, 01 Oct 2009 12:19:40 CST Found growing along asphalt driveway at the edge of where red granite fill meets the lawn. When first picked (two weeks ago) outside was beige in color and inside dark brown and mushy. Now inside is the color of baking cocoa and a powder. Most severe symptoms are on corn on corn on the drier soils. The pictured plants are from a field of Garst hybrids, in which about 60% of the plants exhibit some degree of these symptoms. Only areas without symptoms are on moister soils. I know that there are fungal leaf spot issues, but am mostly concerned about the interveinal chlorosis and what may be interacting to cause that. Leaves have stiff hairs and almost feel sandpaperish on both sides with rough woody stalks. Looking for an ID. Wild Parsnip.....gone wild http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13907 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13907 Tue, 01 Sep 2009 01:28:45 CST It continues to amaze how fast wild parsnip is spreading. This town road was mowed after the initial flush of WP was headed out (about 2 weeks earlier than the county roads, and the 2nd mowing of the season). Now we see a second strong flush coming-on. Can we really expect road crews to mow for a 3rd time? That will be a tough sell (I think). Interestingly, the county roads mowed 2 weeks later have no regrowth, but the seed from the first flush may have been viable (not sure). Do we know the best mowing strategy? Maybe there isn't one as evidenced by the last picture of WP near the culvert in my front lawn. I "weed whack" that area pretty regularly. I think we might be fighting a losing battle unless mowing occurs frequently (not likely) or a chemical approach is initiated (also not likely). beetle ID http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13891 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13891 Tue, 25 Aug 2009 08:16:46 CST Beetles found inside kitchen cupboards, 3/16" long.
