Power till seeder http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=2810 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=2810 Thu, 27 Jun 2002 12:00:00 CST John Deere power till seeder shown on photo. Grower claims he has better success with this drill when interseeding legumes into grass pastures. Do conventional no-till seeders have a problem with smaller seed sizes like red clover? Manitowoc County photo, 6/02 Conditioning roll clearance http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=2770 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=2770 Tue, 18 Jun 2002 12:00:00 CST Roll clearance was over 1/4 inch on this New Holland unit. Difficulty in getting one crimp per stem. Rubber shim (photo) and dirt build up were preventing hand crank adjustment to bring the rolls down to 1/16 to 3/32 inch clearance (recommended). Another good reminder to check roll clearance. Manitowoc County photo, 6/3/02 Alfalfa harvesting under wet conditions http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=907 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=907 Wed, 13 Jun 2001 12:00:00 CST Siemers Holsteins, Inc. have moved almost entirely to dump carts vs. trucks for alfalfa harvesting this spring. Wheel traffic damage will still be a problem but it will be considerably less than with trucks. They have also left the duals on the tractor for better weight distribution and traction. Windrows are merged and they are trying to control traffic as much as possible. If you have additional suggestions for alfalfa field operations in wet conditions, please advise. No-till soybean planting and wet soil conditions http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=826 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=826 Wed, 06 Jun 2001 12:00:00 CST One thing I've noticed with no-till drills and soybean planting in wet weather is that you don't get good slot closure over the row. Less than uniform stand counts follow. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? J.D. no-till drill. Manitowoc County photo, 6/5/01. Zone tillage equipment problem http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=642 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=642 Fri, 18 May 2001 12:00:00 CST Seeding soybeans into corn stubble with a John Deere zone-tillage seeder. Grower has found that seed placement and rear coulters do not line up going around corners, leaving seeds on the surface. Number of coulters needed for zone-till soybeans http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=560 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=560 Tue, 08 May 2001 12:00:00 CST Local zone-till grower opinions differ on the number of coulters needed for adequate seed bed preparation when planting zone-till soybeans. Some feel a single coulter/row is adeqate; others feel two coulters/row are needed. Comments appreciated.
