Web sites on asparagus problems suggest aphids might be the cause, but I can't find any on the plants. Any ideas? Fusarium wilt?? http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13821 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13821 Wed, 05 Aug 2009 06:06:40 CST Heirloom tomatoes planted as transplants from saved seeds. Previous crop cabbage, and peppers. Plants started with leaf curl and then started to wilt and collapse. Fertilized with manure, limed, gyspum added, mulched with shredded paper. Overhead irrigation. Weather has been cool and dry, but recently more rain and morning dew. First inclination is Pin Cherry, looking for second opinion. Watermelon wilting http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13782 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13782 Mon, 27 Jul 2009 02:57:04 CST Photo from hills of watermelon (varieties: Delite and Sugar Baby). It looks bacterial in nature, but would appreciate a better id and suggestions of control. This is from a commercial vegetable grower, they're concerned about having a marketable crop. One challenge this grower has is a limited land base, which leads to a less than desirable crop rotation. I strongly encouraged them to send a sample to the Disease Diagnostic lab, but they wish to try other options first. Plum with growth http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13753 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13753 Thu, 16 Jul 2009 11:46:59 CST Master Gardener has submitted a branch from her plum with a growth on it. It has several of these; first appeared mid-June. If it is black knot, I've not seen it like this before. On close up, it almost looks like spit-bug dried to be black and hard. Turfgrass ID (repost) http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13751 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13751 Thu, 16 Jul 2009 11:07:44 CST I'm reposting this as the first attempt at uploading the image failed (it was too big) and I can't figure out how to edit previous posts. I think this is rough bluegrass (Poa triv.) and I wanted a second opinion. The 'onion like sheaths' and the folded veination seem to be there. He is interested in what may be causing this. The plant is 5+ years old with 12 foot vines growing up the arbor. New growth looks fine. She has not fertilized it, but watering it regularyly. Lower leaves are discoloring. (see pic). I've suggested to use a composted manure at the based of it, otherwise I don't think it's anything life threatening. I'm not familair with problems of hops so if someone recognizes this I'd appreciate your input. He has Bonnie Best which has a lot of small apples that appear to be hit by apple scab or blossem end rot? He has a Wolf River tree which has a lot of apples still on the tree that have dried and shriveled up. Still on the tree. Suggestion s as to what he has?? Oak feeding http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13662 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13662 Tue, 30 Jun 2009 02:13:25 CST Three large oak trees have similar symptoms. We already identified mites and aphids on the leaves but there also apears to be skeletonized feeding. There is quite a bit of webbing/fuzz on the leaves and stems where feeding was; however it is not clear in the pictures. Ash tree dieback http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13657 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13657 Tue, 30 Jun 2009 01:33:30 CST Ash tree with some obvious damage to the bark from some type of borer. Homeowner asked about possible EAB. Found some gallery work and a couple of exit holes, not sure about D shape. Tree is about 15' tall, still has leaves however the bark was dead all around the tree. I removed the dead bark and there is some type of growth between the live bark and the trunk. Homeowner had removed dirt from around the base of the tree and there are some large area of shoot and bud development. Did not find any borers. Witch's Broom on Raspberry http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13653 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13653 Tue, 30 Jun 2009 10:46:14 CST Any ideas for what is causing the Witch's Brooming on this Raspbery cane. Only a small number of plants affected. The brooming is very uniform along the cane suggesting to me a systemic type of infection. Rust-Orange Colored Soil http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13644 http://www.uwex.edu/ces/ag/plantdoc/viewCase.cfm?cid=13644 Fri, 26 Jun 2009 05:13:37 CST The soil in these raised garden beds has a fine layer of a rusty orange colored growth on it. The only soil amendments that have been added to the gardens was Preen and some fertilizer that was applied and tilled into the soil 6 weeks ago. The beds and the walkways are lined with black plastic underneath and are about 6"deep. This did cause water to sit on the beds for more than a day after a 3"rainfall last weekend. This coloration did not show up until after the heavy rain. The tomato and other plants appear to be healthy, but we are wondering what is the cause of the strange coloring on top of the soil? Two days later nearly all of the plants began to exhibit twisted tops and irregular leaves on the upper part of the plants. Temps in this field have been in the mid-40's at night and low 70's during the day. There has been no herbicide applied in the area in the past week. Alfalfa field was sprayed with 2,4-d and Roundup in late April. Over 50 varieties of Pumpkins were planted 3 weeks later. Very sparse emergence, especialy in middle of field. Edges of field have better emergence but not great. Many seeds have a seed maggot in them. Could 2,4-d be the culprit? Grower would like to replant but is concerned about 2,4-d being present. The middle is brown, then a yellow ring, then a red ring, with the outside ring a dark brownish red. Nothing serious for the tree health, but a curosity. Any ideas?
