Client received a deck planter early this spring as a gift. This began growing out of it and is now 7ft tall with a 2" diameter stalk. Side shoots have the top tassel which looks like it will have tiny small yellow flowers once it actually blooms. Leaves have stiff hairs and almost feel sandpaperish on both sides with rough woody stalks. Looking for an ID.

Kerri, this is Ambrosia trifida or giant ragweed.

By entering that the plant was upright, had simple leaves that were palmately lobed and opposite it reduced the selection down to 4 options, one of which was giant ragweed.
