Brown tassle-like growths on balsams. Typically on the end or at a split. Please ID problem.

Just looks like shoot death- could be old frost injury or some odd disease

Sorry to be slow. I've been on vacation. This definitely could be due to one of several fungal pathogens. I'd have to see a sample to see if there is anything in the tissue and if so, what pathogen.
