Wood Wasp ID
Submitted by Kerri Ison on 9/14/2009
Client recently began removing large red and jack pines from property. Found both of these wasps since that began. Also found one larger, 2" in length with "tail" an inch longer than the body. Provided info on Ichmeunoid wasp and pigeon tremex horntail but client does not agree. Client is concerned in a Sirex Wood Wasp. Please ID for confirmation and suggest control if necessary.

There are 23 species of Siricidae including 8 or 9 in the genus Sirex. I would need to see the sample to give a species ID
