The “Growers to Grocers” project aims to fulfill the growing consumer demand for local food in the retail grocery industry. The project is a collaborative, multi-year effort centered in the 8-county Madison Region. Currently, our focus is on supply chain development, distribution and merchandising strategies. We hope to begin rollout to independent grocers on a pilot basis in the spring of 2009.

The Local and Regional Food Distribution System project at the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems at UW-Madison in collaboration with the Agricultural Innovation Center at UW-Extension is working to identify those links of the supply chain that have the greatest potential for scaling up local foods through a series of nationwide case studies as well as Wisconsin-based business development assistance for agricultural related businesses and entrepreneurs.

GrocersBuyLocal is the official website and database of Wisconsin grocers interested in purchasing locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese and more from local farmers, growers, producers and manufacturers. GrocersBuyLocal has been developed to help local sellers match up with local grocery or corporate buyers to facilitate the sale of products in their area or across the state of Wisconsin. This site has been developed by the Wisconsin Grocers Association, Inc. through funding provided by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and is provided for the benefit of local sellers and buyers. |
