4-H Livestock Judging Contest (State)
This contest usually occurs at the end of July and is the contest that selects our State winners for National Competition. The top senior teams travels to Louisville, the second place senior team travels to Kansas City.
4-H Meats Judging Contest (State)
This Contest test the knowledge of youth in placement of carcass and retail cut classes, carcass grading, retail cut identification and a quiz. This contest occurs annually with the first place senior team going to Kansas City, MO and second place senior team traveling to Denver, Co. There is a Junior Division as well.
Animal Welfare Judging Contest
This contest measures youth's knowledge of aspects of animal care and management as well as the current industry information in this area.
Area Animal Science Days (AASD)
These contests usually occur at the end of June beginning
part of July. These are the qualifying contests for the State 4-H
Livestock Judging Contest. Each year there usually is a topic that each species
participates in. In addition, there is a meats portion to the day's
events.
Carcass Shows
In Wisconsin many county's have carcass shows following their county fair livestock shows. Carcass Data Collections sheets and educational material are located on this page.
FFA Livestock and Meats Judging Contest
These Contest are held the last Friday in April. The winning team competes at the National FFA Judging contests at the National Convention.
Livestock Quiz Bowl
This Competition test the knowledge of youth on the species of beef, sheep and swine. Topic areas include nutrition, reproduction, meats, and many more. Questions are asked and youth buzz in, in order to answer the question. The fun is contagious! This contest is usually held in the spring of the year.
Livestock Quiz and Skillathon Contest
This event is held along with the WLBA Annual Meeting. This contest test youth's knowledge on beef, sheep, and swine. However, in this contest youth need to complete a quiz and skillathon station. The top 4-H Team in the Senior division travels to Louisville, KY to compete in the National Quiz and Skillathon Competition. This contest is usually held in the spring of the year.
State Fair
Wisconsin State Fair is held every year at Wisconsin State Fair Park. You will find information about the upcoming fairs along with listings of past winners and results.
Welfare Judging Contest
This is a new event occurring in March of 2006 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This contest is designed to teach youth to integrate multiple decision making factors through assessing farm animal operations.
World Beef Expo Youth Sweepstakes
World Beef Expo, located at Wisconsin State Fair Park, at the end of September is a great youth event for learning more about beef. A Youth Sweepstakes knowledge competition occurs with awards of money and prizes. Each year youth are tested through a quiz, skillathon stations, judging contest, speeches, showmanship and live show placing. The top 4 event is selected for overall, while prizes and money are available through 8th place.
