Thanks to the efforts of State Senator Russ Decker and U.S. Representative David Obey, the University of Wisconsin-Extension 's Center for Community Economic Development is proud to announce Northern EDGE: Economic Development and Growing the Economy. Northern EDGE is a demonstration project that contributes to building foundations for local job growth and business development in twenty-nine (29) targeted counties in Northern Wisconsin . This demonstration project focuses on building capacity, creating economic and workforce resources, and stimulating business and industry activity. Northern EDGE has been made possible by financial support and in-kind support from the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration; University of Wisconsin Extension and University of Wisconsin System; Xcel Energy; and the United States Department of Agriculture.
Northern EDGE targets the most northern counties of the state, roughly defined as counties north of U.S. Highway 29. These counties include:
Together, these three project components promise to support economic and workforce development in northern Wisconsin: Profiles of Best Practices showcase successful approaches to economic development occurring in communities throughout northern Wisconsin and the state. These stories serve as an economic and workforce development resource to stimulate additional success across the region. Market Studies provide community-specific and/or industry-targeted findings and products to assist businesses, communities and elected officials with economic and workforce development decisions and market strategies. Fund for New Initiatives supports local organizations and municipalities throughout northern Wisconsin to pilot collaborative business, economic and workforce development initiatives.
