Economic DevelopmentEconomic Development

CNRED outreach and research efforts are supported by a number of campus and county based experts. This programming is focused on enhancing local economic health, business development, stable employment and quality of life.

These programs and services are reflected in centers of excellence, self-directed issue teams and a variety of statewide, regional and/or county initiatives.

Below are some of our statewide self-directred issue teams working on economic development.

Community and Economic Development Preparedness Team Adobe PDF icon - Changing economic conditions have forced many Wisconsin communities to rethink their community and economic development strategies. In addition, many communities are beginning to develop the economic development element of their Smart Growth plans but lack strategies based on solid data and proven methods. In addition, some communities lack a shared vision to focus efforts on building Wisconsin's New Economy. This team will focus its efforts on developing educational programs, resources and tools to assist communities with their efforts to explore a full range of community and economic development alternatives.

Downtown Vitality and Community Placemaking - Downtowns and neighborhood business districts throughout Wisconsin face serious problems that impact quality of community life. The Downtowns and Business Districts Revitalization Team;s purpose is to help Wisconsin communities in their efforts to recapture or sustain the vitality of their downtown and business districts. This will be accomplished by building the capacity of county-based faculty, and by serving as a knowledge resource to Wisconsin communities.

Tourism Research, Planning and Development Adobe PDF icon - The Tourism Research, Planning and Development Team's purpose is to leverage Extension's rich history in tourism programming to help strengthen community tourism and its contribution to Wisconsin's economy. Priorities will include forming synergistic partnerships in and outside Extension, and building Extension's capacity in the area of tourism.
