Natural
Resources
CNRED outreach and research efforts are supported by a number
of campus and county based experts. This programming is focused
on enhancing local economic health, business development, stable
employment and quality of life.
These programs and services are reflected in centers
of excellence, self-directed issue teams
and a variety of statewide, regional and/or county initiatives.
Below are some of our statewide self-directed issue teams working
on natural resources.
Bioenergy - Bioeconomy Team - Bioenergy - Bioeconomy Team - The emergence of the bioeconomy, and its focus on energy development from Wisconsin agriculture in particular, has significant ramifications for the economic and environmental well-being of the state. Wisconsin has benefited from the growth of industries developing food crop based biofuels (mostly corn ethanol and soy diesel). Likewise, a number of promising technologies for generating ethanol and other fuels from cellulose are currently in the pilot stage, and Wisconsin has the potential to be one of the nation’s big winners in the emerging cellulosic fuel economy. However, the implications of increased biofuel development for agricultural, rural and urbanizing regions of the state are enormous. The Bioenergy - Bioeconomy Team brings together county faculty and statewide specialists from the CNRED and ANRE program areas to develop outreach programs addressing the opportunities and challenges posed by Wisconsin’s bioeconomy.
Forestry - The Forestry Team will work in cooperation with
other statewide and local partners to develop and deliver educational
programs and materials on forest use and management for Wisconsin’s
forestry community. Programming will focus on woodland owner education, professional and leadership development for foresters, and education surrounding efficient use of forest resources for industries within the state.
Invasive Species - Terrestrial and aquatic invasive species
are significant and growing problems in Wisconsin. The Invasive
Species Team will address these issues through building a network
in and outside Extension to coordinate educational programming,
sharing research and responding to opportunities for research, and
sharing informational and educational tools.
Stormwater - The Stormwater Team recognizes that stormwater
is increasingly becoming an issue facing many communities across
Wisconsin. The team's purpose is to build the capacity of faculty,
staff and agency partners to address stormwater and erosion control
education needs, and to foster communication and coordination in
order to improve educational programming statewide.
Water Team - The UWEX Water Team acts as an umbrella over a number of work groups involving water. Members of the teams include UWEX CNRED and non-CNRED educators and other partners.
