The price paid for agricultural land in 2004 was recently reported by the Wisconsin Agricultural Statistics Service.  Trend data is presented in the graph and represents only those transactions where the land continued in agricultural use.  For bare ground, the price continued its upward ascent.  The average price paid for agricultural land without buildings in Fond du Lac County was $2329 per acre.  For the second year in a row, the average price paid increased by about $100 per acre.  This is somewhat less than occurred between 1998 and 2002.   In the past ten years, bare land values have nearly tripled.  For land with buildings and other improvements, the average price paid in 2004 was $2711 per acre.  This was actually a decline from the previous year, but may simply be an anomaly because of the type of properties sold.
