Alfalfa scissor-cut forage quality information will again be made available to area farmers on the radio (AM1450 KFIZ at 5:53 a.m.) and on the FORAGEline phone system this spring.  To access FORAGEline, dial 1-920-929-3175, at the prompt enter “1”Additionally, we will also post this information on the World Wide Web at:  www.uwex.edu/ces/crops/scicut2007.htm

The alfalfa scissors-cut program is sponsored by the Fond du Lac County Forage Council.  It involves the cutting and lab analysis of fresh samples of alfalfa from several area fields.  The information from the forage quality analysis can then be used to help gauge the optimum time for harvest.  In addition to forage quality lab analysis results, estimated forage quality using Predictive Equations for Alfalfa Quality (PEAQ) from the scissors-cut fields and from fields located throughout the county will also be reported.   Samples will be taken each Monday for lab analysis and PEAQ readings will be taken both Mondays and Thursdays.
