The annual Canning Pea and Sweet Corn Growers Clinic will be held Tuesday, February 11 at the Fox Lake Community Center (Hwy. 68 on the east side of Fox Lake) from 10 am - 3pm. The program is designed to bring producers, canning company representatives, and UW Extension personnel together to discuss current issues, new technologies, and improved production practices related to peas and sweet corn.
Topics and speakers for the program include: An Overview of the Grower Security Law, Carol Svenson, WDATCP; ATCP 29 Field Posting Requirements, Jim Fanta, Dodge Co. Crops and Soils Agent; Pesticide Crop Rotation and Feeding Restrictions, Wayne Wells, Friday Canning Company; UW Soil Test Recommendation Changes for 1997, Mike Rankin, Fond du Lac County Crops and Soils Agent; Pea and Sweet Corn Weed Control Considerations for 1997, Dr. Chris Boerboom, UWEX Weed Control Specialist; Setting-up Your Planter for High Residue Planting, Dr. Ron Schuler, UWEX Ag Engineer; and a grower/industry panel discussion on no-till pea and sweet corn production strategies.
The cost for attending the program is $9.00 per person and includes lunch and materials. Preregistration is required and can be done by contacting the Fond du Lac County Extension Office (929-3171 or 748-7565) or e-mail Mike Rankin with your name and number attending. The program is being sponsored by the Dodge and Fond du Lac UW Extension offices, Friday Canning Company, Seneca Foods, Dean Foods, and Stokely USA.
