Fond du Lac County Forage Council Fall Forage Field Day
When: Tuesday, September 1st Where: John and Linda Diederichs Farm W2784 Hwy. 149, Malone Time: 11am - 2:00 pm

------------------------Field Day Highlights-----------------------

11am to 12:30 pm - Corn Silage Moisture Testing

Bring in 4 stalks of corn from silage fields (maximum of two samples per farm) for whole plant moisture determination. Be sure samples are representative of entire field. Cut samples at normal cutting height. Stalks should be tied together and tagged with name, address, hybrid, maturity, and planting date. There will be no charge for testing but samples need to be brought to the farm before 12:30 pm.

11:30 - Review of Potato Leafhopper Resistant Alfalfa Germplasms

Discussion of PLH resistant alfalfa performance to date and viewing of field plots.

12:00 - Lunch

The FdL Co. Forage Council will provide lunch for a nominal $2.00 per plate charge.

1:00 to 2:30 - Fall Forage Update Program

Discussion of 1998 Scissor-cut test results, alfalfa variety performance, and corn silage harvest management.

"Getting the Most from Processed Corn Silage"

New research from Wisconsin helps to pinpoint optimum corn silage chop length and harvester settings. Forage harvesters equipped with kernel processors will be on site for viewing.

All area forage producers are welcome to attend this educational program that is being sponsored by the Fond du Lac County Forage Council and UW Extension-Fond du Lac County.

Future Corn Silage "Burndown" Dates: Tuesday, September 8th and Monday, September 14th at Rolling Meadows Dairy Barn (across from Fond du Lac Holiday Inn). Bring in silage samples for chopping and moisture determination from 10 am to 12:30 pm.
