Executive Director, Hoosic River Watershed Association

The Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA, http://www.hoorwa.org) seeks an Executive Director (20 hours per week).  HooRWA, a non-profit organization based in Williamstown, MA, champions restoration, conservation and enjoyment of the watershed through education, research, and advocacy. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for ensuring that the goals of the association are met and maintaining a financially viable organization. 

The primary responsibilities include determining organizational priorities in consultation with the Board; developing educational, advocacy and research programs; coordinating events, writing grant proposals; preparing newsletters; coordinating annual membership / fundraising campaigns; supervising HooRWA staff and volunteers; acting as spokesperson for the organization and performing administrative tasks.  A full job description and other information can be found at hoorwa.org.

The successful candidate will be familiar with watershed issues, able to work independently, and have excellent communication skills. A demonstrated interest in environmental or community related issues through educational background and/or work experience is preferred.  Familiarity with MS Word, Access, Quickbooks, and Dream Weaver a plus.

As a part-time job, this position does not provide benefits.

Exciting opportunity to coordinate community-based stream management in the New York City Watershed in the Catskills!  

Job Title:        Project Coordinator, Ashokan Basin Stream Management Program
Location:        Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County, Kingston, NY
 
Position Summary:
A Project Coordinator is needed to facilitate a community-driven process for stream management planning and project implementation in the Ashokan Reservoir Watershed.  The program is funded by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  Technical aspects of management planning will be supported by the Ulster County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the DEP.

Project Coordinator duties include: 

  • Coordinate continued development of stream management plans with community stakeholders, project partners and consultants.
  • Coordinate meetings and communication for the watershed council, working groups and the community.
  • Facilitate stakeholders to develop a decision-making process for prioritizing, funding and implementing stream management plan recommendations.
  • Manage a stream management implementation fund using a community-driven process.
  • Manage and maintain a satellite office in the watershed.
  • Apply for grants and contracts to enhance the work of the Project, as appropriate.
  • Supervise the Education Program Coordinator, program staff, consultants and volunteers.
  • Advocate application of fluvial geomorphic methods to address channel stability, water quality, habitat, flood hazard and aesthetic concerns.
  • Assist in marketing efforts of Cooperative Extension to the community. 
  • Maintain an effective connection to Cornell Extension administration and faculty.

Qualifications:
Masters degree in a field related to water resource issues, such as hydrology, geology, biology, environmental science, natural resource planning, environmental education or forestry.  Plus four years of progressively responsible experience in Cooperative Extension or equivalent professional experience. A PhD may substitute for two years of experience.

Position Title: Assistant Professor and Extension Water Resources Specialist

Appointment:100% Extension

General Duties and Responsibilities: 

The applicant will work closely with County Extension Agents, other Extension specialists, Regional Program Directors, Texas AgriLife Research and other research faculty, water suppliers, the agricultural and greenscape industries; local, state and federal agencies charged with the protection and conservation of water resources to develop and implement high quality educational programs, applied field research as well as conventional and electronic publications to inform the public on issues related the protection of water quality and environmental stewardship including issues associated with water contamination from bacteria, pesticides and other organic contaminants at the local and watershed scale; the conservation of surface and ground water resources and sustainable crop and forage production systems. Duties will include a significant travel schedule, field research, numerous educational meetings, creation of publications and other scholarly work to assist Texans in adopting practices which lead to improved water quality and the conservation of water resources. While the position is supported by departmental funds, the incumbent will be expected to enhance programming capacity through the acquisition of external funding.

Administrative Relationships: The specialist will report to the Head of the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences through the Associate Head and Extension Program Leader. The specialist will potentially supervise student workers, Extension Assistants or Associates and/or Extension Program Specialists.

Qualifications: 

Required: An earned Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, Crop Science or similar field with emphasis on water quality and/or water conservation. 

Excellent and demonstrated oral, written and electronic communication skills.

Research experience in water quality and/or water conservation with urban greenscape and/or agronomic crop and forage production systems.

Preferred:A documented background in the acquisition of external grant funds

Experience in Extension education
