The San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve ( http://www.sfbaynerr.org/) is now accepting applications for a full-time Monitoring Technician. SF Bay NERR is part of a state-federal partnership of 27 protected reserves in the U.S. that promote stewardship of our nation’s estuaries through integrated research and education programs ( http://nerrs.noaa.gov). SF Bay NERR is administratively headquartered at San Francisco State University’s Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies in Tiburon, CA. The Monitoring Technician will have primary responsibility for coordinating and implementing the national NERR System-wide Monitoring Program.

Essential job functions include:

(1) Water-quality and meteorological monitoring, including calibration, deployment, retrieval, and maintenance of equipment;
(2) Water and nutrient sample collection and analysis, including laboratory preparation, sample processing, and research;
(3) Data entry and management, including monthly, quarterly and annual data review, QA/QC, and metadata upkeep; and
(4) Administrative and other projects, including scheduling, purchasing, reporting, communications, laboratory maintenance, on-line research pertaining to ongoing projects, use of statistical techniques, data preparation for presentation, preparation of analytical reports and descriptive, non-technical summaries, and biological monitoring.

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, oceanography, chemistry, biology, ecology or related field preferred. EXPLORATION CENTER MANAGER

Description: Save The Bay seeks a dynamic leader to run our Exploration Center and Aquarium. The Exploration Center Manager is a core member of the education team who oversees the daily operations of the Exploration Center and its staff. The Center Manager will ensure that programs and community relationships are maintained within the Aquidneck Island community as well as throughout Rhode Island. The Exploration Center Manager will work with the Director of Education to strategize and plan for the future success of the education programming at Exploration Center.

Reports to: Director of Education

Duties:

* Work with Director of Education to further existing contacts and develop new relationships with local and state education facilities
* Manage Exploration Center budget, education programs, and all aspects of public and group programming at the Exploration Center
* Assist with researching and writing education related grant proposals specific to the Exploration Center
* Hire/ oversee seasonal staff
* Manage full time staff of the Center
* Work with Exploration Center staff to develop education programs at The Center
* Work in collaboration with Marketing/Communications staff to market The Center appropriately
* Support STB Habitat, Development, and Advocacy staff in order to integrate other STB project initiatives
* Coordinate schedules with Education Program Manager to ensure proper staffing and scheduling of programs

Qualifications:

* 5 years experience running a multifaceted, dynamic, education program
* Experience managing and overseeing a professional staff
* Experience developing and managing budgets
* Experience writing grants
* BA/BS or higher degree in biology, education, marine studies, or related field
* Experience and knowledge of environmental education initiatives
* Demonstrated teaching, communications, and organizational skills
* Ability to handle physical demands of field programs including comfort working on boat programs
* Experience in conducting environmental/science education field programs
