Dine College E. coli training 2010The Extension Volunteer Monitoring Network partners with Salish Kootenai College to help understand and foster growth of volunteer water monitoring in tribal communities. Our tribal connections further developed in 2009 through a partnership with Montana State University Extension and their work with the Crow Tribe. In 2010, we enhanced our tribal connections, partnering with The College of the Menominee Nation (CMN) and the Great Lakes Regional Water Program to hire an intern, Ben White, to help assess water resources needs and the status of and interest in volunteer water monitoring among tribes and tribal colleges in the Great Lakes Region. Ben also played an integral role in planning and carrying out a Tribal Water Summit in October 2010.

Ben developed a poster (2.8 MB pdf) to share results of his Great Lakes regional survey of tribes and tribal colleges regarding volunteer water monitoring, and we have developed a report (4.2 MB pdf) to additionally share findings of the surveys.
