PICKenosha County Smart Growth

Over the last three years, Kenosha County and nine of its local government units have been working cooperatively with the County Department of Planning & Development, the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC), and Kenosha County UW-Extension to develop a comprehensive plan in order to meet the requirements of Wisconsin's "Smart Growth" law. The law specifies nine elements that must be included in the plan; Kenosha County has one chapter remaining to be developed before our multi-jurisdictional plan is complete. The comprehensive plan is intended to guide land use decisions in the County through the year 2035, with the aim of moving the County towards a healthy, safe, economically and environmentally sustainable future.

The University of Wisconsin-Extension does not discriminate in the treatment of individuals, in the admission or access to its programs and activities, in the provision of services, or in employment.

With an office in each Wisconsin county, Cooperative Extension develops practical educational programs tailored to local needs and based on university knowledge and research. County-based Extension educators are University of Wisconsin faculty and staff who are experts in agriculture and agribusiness, community and economic development, natural resources, family living and youth development. Extension county-based faculty and staff live and work with the people they serve in communities across the state. Extension specialists work on UW System campuses where they access current research and knowledge. Collaboration between county and campus faculty is the hallmark of Cooperative Extension in Wisconsin.
