Annual 4-H Activities and Events

Each club will have special activities throughout the year. In addition there are several county-wide and state-wide events that 4-H members can participate in. Listed below are some of the more popular activities and events:

National 4-H Week
This is always the first full week of October. It is a week set aside each year to recognize and promote 4-H across the country. The Buffalo County Leaders' Association sponsors a contest that encourages 4-H families and 4-H Clubs to create lawn or window displays that provide the promotion of 4-H within their community. Each year a new central theme is chosen for this event.
Keeping it Green
Festival of Arts This event, usually held in February, provides youth an opportunity to demonstrate their creative talents in art, crafts, photography and marketing as well as to share their abilities in music, communication arts and drama. Judges provide evaluative comments to participants to help them improve their skills.

Festival of Arts

Foods Revue This is a pre-fair event, usually held in the spring, and is for the foods project members. Depending on the grade level of the participant, members may prepare a simple food item up to a complete meal, which includes a place setting with centerpiece for judging.

Foods Revue

Clothing Revue This is another pre-fair event, usually held in June, for members of a Clothing Project. Members model their clothing items and have the opportunity to talk to judges about the construction of their garment. Clothing Revue
4-H Camp Camp is a three-day event open to 3rd through 8th graders. This camp, which includes campers from nearby Counties, gives 4-H members a great opportunity to meet new friends, learn new activities, explore nature and much much more. Older 4-H members have the opportunity to serve as counselors or junior directors with certified adult volunteers and UW-Extension staff supervision.

4-H Camp

Horse Show This is a pre-fair event, usually held in July, where 4-H members of the Horse Project have the opportunity to demonstrate their horsemanship skills. The Horse Show includes a wide variety of events including Halter, Equitation and Pleasure classes, Showmanship, Trail Patterns, Bareback and the ever popular Costume class. Horse Show
Buffalo County Fair This is an annual event, where 4-H members have the opportunity to exhibit and display their project work. The purpose of the fair is to provide valuable evaluation to the exhibitors by judges, with possible suggestions on how the projects can be improved. The fair is held at the beginning of August at the fairgrounds in Mondovi and is sponsored by the Buffalo County Fair Association.

County Fair

State Fair This fair is held in August, in West Allis, WI. It provides additional opportunities for youth throughout the state to participate in activities and to exhibit in many project areas.

State Fair

State Teams 4-H members in grades 9 -12 are eligible to apply for participation in one of the following: Art Team, Drama Team, Press Team, Showcase Singers and the Tech Team. If selected, the members will participate at the WI 4-H & Youth Conference and/or the State Fair. Applications must be submitted by mid-February. Showcase singers
