Columbia County Changing Population Initiative - Interest Groups
“If it is to be it is up to me.”
People who participated in Summit II of the Columbia County Changing Population Initiative were encouraged to identify topics areas of interest to them. The idea is to identify a group of individuals who would come together to discuss the topic area in more depth. The hope is that these groups will be the catalyst for action related to their topic area in order to help Columbia County be better prepared to meet the needs of the changing population.
Listed below are the various topic areas and the people who have indicated an interest in participating in discussions and action related to these areas. All the people listed here have given permission for their contact information to be shared.
These lists are a starting point. We encourage you to identify a topic(s) that is of interest to you, call or email Extension to add your name to the group list, and make contact with somebody in that group. Each group will decide when and how to meet or communicate and what the work of the group will be. In this way, the citizens of Columbia County will develop and implement proactive steps to prepare for the county’s future.
It all begins by bringing people together and engaging in conversations. We look forward to the good things that we know will emerge from the work of these committed groups.

| Demographics.
You might find the following site interesting. It has up-to-date demographic data for many of the key themes, and more, that were highlighted during the Changing Population Series.
Most but not all of the data is 2007. Updated information will probably be available through the 2010 Census.
The data covers a wide variety of topics including: age, agriculture, ancestry, banking, building permits, business patterns, crime, earnings, education, elections, employment, government, health, households, housing, income, labor force, manufactures, population, poverty, retail trade, social programs, veterans, vital statistics, water use, and wholesale trade.
The data comes from a variety of sources including the U. S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Social Security Administration.
This great resource can be found through the CCED Twitter at: CCED Twitter UW-Extension CCED.
