Mission:
To be a “one-stop-shop” community
resource offering integrated financial education classes,
counseling, and referrals to community programs and services.
Situation:
There is a consensus regarding the need to teach
people about managing personal finances. Clearly, there is
a continuum of need from the many families in our community
who are working at low-wage jobs that do not pay enough to
meet their basic expenses, to others who have enough income
but experience financial distress due to poor financial management.
It is essential that families who are resource constrained
get connected to the services for which they are eligible.
Program Description:
The Financial Education Center is located
at the Villager Mall in the heart of south Madison. The objective
of the center is to increase the financial literacy skills
of residents in Madison and Dane County thereby empowering
them to achieve financial security. This is accomplished
by offering consistent, reliable and integrated financial
education through classes, one-on-one guidance and various
programs and services in a central and familiar location.
Although the primary focus is to reach low and moderate-income
individuals and families, the center is open to anyone interested
in enhancing their financial education.
