SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION EQUIPMENT
Dane County UW Extension Office has acquired equipment that allows a meeting or presentation to be simultaneously interpreted for up to 32 individuals at a time. Using a tabletop sound booth, the interpreter is acoustically isolated, yet in the room and able to observe/listen to the presenter. The interpreter speaks into a microphone and the interpretation is then transmitted to the listeners via headphones connected to small pocket-sized receivers.
To reserve the equipment, contact Joan Laurion at 608/224-3722 or click here to email Joan
The equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A $100 deposit is required, and a $25 per day charge applies.
To serve more people, you can also rent equipment from Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice (ICWJ) of South Central Wisconsin. In addition, they sponsor a project called the Madison Interpreters' Collective (MIC) to provide quality, affordable interpretation services. Call them at 608/255-0376 for more information or email them.
