SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION EQUIPMENT

Dane County UW Extension Office has acquired equipment that allows a meeting or presentation to be simultaneously interpreted for up to 32 individuals at a time. Using a tabletop sound booth, the interpreter is acoustically isolated, yet in the room and able to observe/listen to the presenter. The interpreter speaks into a microphone and the interpretation is then transmitted to the listeners via headphones connected to small pocket-sized receivers.

To reserve the equipment, contact Emily Capicik at 608/224-3707 or email Emily.

The equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A $100 deposit is required, and a $25 per day charge applies. If you are not familiar with using this equipment, the following publication from UW-Extension explains some important things to know about how to set up your event.

To serve more people, you can also rent equipment from Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice (ICWJ) of South Central Wisconsin. Their equipment is compatible with our system. In addition, they sponsor a project called the Madison Interpreters' Collective (MIC) to provide quality, affordable interpretation services. Call them at 608/255-0376 for more information or email them.
