Food4-H PROJECT INFORMATION - Food Preservation

Food Preservation is a fun and delicious project for all ages. Learn how to preserve food and eat your results.

Note: It is important to remember that current UW-Extension Food Preservation Bulletins must be used for all canning, freezing and dehydration projects. So check your project literature carefully.

Fair entrants are divided into two categories for judging: 13 years and Younger or 14 years & Older. Here are a few of the entries you can take to the fair:

Canned entries: Tomatoes, Tomato Juice, Rhubarb, Red or Black Raspberry Sauce, Other Berries, Cherries, Applesauce, Peaches, Pears, Jam, Jelly

Frozen entries: Peas, Green or Yellow Beans, Strawberries, Peaches

Dehydrated entries: Dried Fruit, Dried Vegetable, Dried Fruit Leather

In addition older members can enter Tomato Sauce/Paste, Spaghetti Sauce, Grape Juice, many types of Pickles, Frozen Berries and Dried Meat (Jerky).
