Ag Plastic Recycling Collection a Success
Green County farmers responded to an opportunity to dispose of waste agriculture plastic from silo bags, wrapped bales, milk house soap and acid containers and plastic twine during a recent one week period at the Green County Landfill. The collection was part of a pilot project that Mark Mayer, UW-Extension Agriculture Agent undertook with Jim Hunkins, Manager of the Green County Landfill and several Green County farmers starting in January to explore the feasibility of recycling agriculture plastics. Green County Scissor Clipping Data Begins
First cutting alfalfa is the single most important cutting to farmers because it is 40% of the total season yield and is generally harvested for the milking dairy herd. Yet this is the cutting when forage quality is changing the fastest and is the one that generally has the lowest average forage quality. Because of the importance of this cutting and its generally low forage quality, local Extension offices the state have been doing scissors clipping and reporting forage quality to encourage more timely harvesting. View the data from these twice weekly clipping and analysis of standing alfalfa. |

Farm Technology Days Grants Available
The Green County Farm Technology Days Executive Committee is pleased to announce that it will offer grants to area non-profit and public organizations, with preference given to those based in Green County. MISSION
With an office in each Wisconsin county, Cooperative Extension
develops practical educational programs tailored to local needs
and based on university knowledge and research. County-based
Extension educators are University of Wisconsin faculty and staff
who are experts in agriculture and agribusiness, community and
economic development, natural resources, family living and youth
development. Extension county-based faculty and staff live and
work with the people they serve in communities across the state.
Extension specialists work on UW System campuses where they access
current research and knowledge. Collaboration between county
and campus faculty is the hallmark of Cooperative Extension in
Wisconsin.
