UPDATES

South Central Wisconsin Master Gardener Assoication meeting May 22, 2008. Butch Witney will be the featured speaker. An open forum on questions will be taken by Mr Whitney on tree diseases and issues. The buisness meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in the Government Services Building Auditorium.

Brown Bag WisLine Programs

The 12-1 PM monthly programs are educational programs offered generally the last Friday of each monthly except holiday months (ie. NOV and DEC and sometimes other months with key holidays) when the program is held one week earlier than the holiday weekend: note dates).  The programs are designed for statewide Master Gardeners and other persons interested in horticultural topics. The Wisconsin Master Gardener Program teaches volunteers who aid University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension Staff by helping people in the community better understand horticulture and their environment.

The South Central Master Gardener Association's Mission is:

  1. To serve the needs of all gardeners in Green County and the surrounding area.
  2. To promote the continuing education of members through horticultural education, programs, tours, etc.
  3. To promote community service through volunteer activities.
  4. To recognize members who meet and maintain certification.
  5. To provide for the exchange of ideas and to provide opportunities to promote the understanding of responsible gardening practices
  6. To provide a link between the community and the UW-Extension.

South Central Wisconsin Master Gardeners now have the use of a new reference library to use in answering questions from homeowners or in researching topics you may be interested in. The reference library is located in the ETN room just across the hall from the Green County UW-Extension Office in the Government Services Building, Monroe. A MS Word document listing of the reference materials that are currently available for your use is posted in the room near the library.

Thirty-three Green County area residents were recently recognized for earning their Master Gardener Certification at the annual meeting of the South Central Wisconsin Master Gardener Association. The Master Gardener program is an all-volunteer organization sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Extension. The SCWMGA was formed in Green County four years ago to provide Master Gardeners with opportunities for professional
development and community service.
