4-H LOCAL CLUBS AND RELATED INFORMATION

4-H began in the early 1900s.  The first groups were called Boys and Girls Clubs.  Then in 1914, Congress passed an act that established Cooperative Extension and 4-H.  4-H is available to families in Iowa County because of an agreement between Cooperative Extension of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Iowa County Board of Supervisors.  The local sponsor of the 4-H program is the Iowa County 4-H Leaders Association.

4-H is an educational youth organization that belongs to the members, their families, and other interested adults who serve as volunteer leaders.  Professional leadership is provided by faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Extension.

The purpose of the 4-H program is to provide learning opportunities for youth, volunteers and parents that assist them in developing appropriate and essential life skills, such as decision making, relating to others, communicating with others, and developing self esteem. 4-H members belong to clubs in their local communities which meet once a month.

Select a 4-H club to join.  Listed below are the clubs in Iowa County grouped by location.  Youth may join any club in the county.

Contact the leader listed, or contact University Extension Iowa County at 608- 935-0391 to learn more about a 4-H club in your area.

Feel free to contact more than one club and we encourage you to visit more than one club meeting to find one that meets your needs and interests.

Get the enrollment form from the club leader, or the UW-Extension Office.  Select your projects, complete the forms, and you're ready for a great year in 4-H
