Youth Leadership Kenosha is a leadership development program offered to Kenosha County high school sophomores during the academic year. Participants learn and apply specific leadership skills, and gain exposure to important community resources and programs. Youth Leadership Kenosha is a program of Leadership Kenosha and is supported by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Kenosha County UW-Extension.

Youth Leadership Kenosha sessions are held once every other month beginning in October and ending in April. Participants are required to attend every session; the only exception being a written excuse from a parent of guardian. Sessions run from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and the location of each session will vary based on the leadership topic.

What will a Youth Leadership Kenosha participant learn?

Youth Leadership Kenosha begins in October with an opening session that is focused on teamwork and collaboration. This format will allow participants to get to know one another and also lay the foundation for the rest of the year.

Following the October session, each subsequent session combines the introduction of specific leadership skills with an experiential exercise that reinforces the concept. This experiential learning process not only teaches participants the skills for effective leadership, but also introduces them to important people and resources throughout the community.

Who can participate?

Youth Leadership Kenosha is open to any high school sophomore from any public or private high school in Kenosha County. Youth Leadership Kenosha participants will be selected based on their written applications. Youth who are selected will be charged a $50 participation fee, but several scholarships are available and awarded based on financial need.
