Knowledge to Work for You Through Agricultural Education Programs
in La Crosse County
Stephen Rischette is an
Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture/ Agri-Business
and the University of Wisconsin-Extension Agricultural Agent for
La Crosse County. He has a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education
from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and M.S. degree in
Dairy Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Steve
has been with UW-Extension since July 1982. Prior to his Extension
appointment, he was Agricultural Instructor at Houston High School.
Steve has a dairy and crop farm background.
As the Agricultural Agent
he develops and teaches programs on production agriculture and
farm agribusiness financial management for adults and youth. Areas
of emphasis include: dairy production - milk quality, ration balancing,
swine production, forage production, soil and water conservation,
farm enterprise budgets and long range financial planning.
Steve has developed the
Master Gardener Program in La Crosse County. The Master Gardener
Program trains volunteers who assist the La Crosse County Extension
Office faculty in providing horticulture information and education
to home owners, gardeners, youth, and organizations throughout
the county.
Steve also serves as educational advisor
to the La Crosse County DHI Cooperative, La Crosse County Holstein
Breeders, La Crosse County Pork Producers, Dairy Promotions Committee,
Livestock Sale Committee and all Youth Livestock Species Committees.
Educational programs based on current University research are
provided to all clientele including farmers, youth and agribusiness
personnel.
